Hello! My name is Dustin Schlagel. I am currently in my sophomore year at Point Park University, where I am majoring in Journalism and Communications. To break myself down as a journalist, I would like to consider myself a “jack of all trades.” Although my mainstay in media is journalism writing, I have become educated in the art of Photography and Videography, as well as Public Relations, Advertising, and Graphic Design. Outside of the classroom, I coach high school Lacrosse, and I am enrolled in a mentorship with Tim Fallon, CEO of Fallon Medica. To summarize what I have done so far in my short career as a journalist: a professionally done, printed, photo gallery, a short video story, complete with full editing and effects. As well as an amateur creation of an online news site, complete with some news stories done by me!
Through Hello Neighbor and this project, I hope to become more educated in the lives of refugees in Pittsburgh, and to become more aware of the cultures of people from around the world. Through this project, I hope to also provide others with insight on the struggles and issues that Refugees face when coming to America, and being able to enlighten people on the cultures of these refugees!
