Winnie Bobbitt has been writing stories for as long as she can remember, those of which always featured powerful, career-focused female characters that she herself deeply aspired to be like one day. At eight years old, instead of playing flashlight tag outside with her friends on cool, summer evenings, Winnie was up in her bedroom, playing with words. In High School, she took every opportunity she could to showcase her writing and receive feedback, and wrote for the student newspaper, The Devil’s Advocate. Now, 23 years old, Winnie’s passion for words hasn’t changed a bit. She studies Journalism at Point Park University, and worked as an intern for small Pittsburgh magazine, Be Local, in the summer of 2021.
On the path to being like the women she once wrote of when she was younger, Winnie can see that her dreams are now possible and within arms reach. She’s passionate about creative things like poetry, food, travel, and wishes to incorporate these elements into her career as a journalist. However, Winnie’s biggest love is telling the stories of people around her. She feels as though her purpose in life is to help those who just can’t seem to find the right words to express their feelings and experiences. It’s within these conversations where she feels truly fulfilled, and that she is growing up to be one of the strong women she once wrote about.
In her spare time, Winnie tries her best to surround herself with the things that inspire her most. She worked at a coffee roaster for four years, and continues to experiment with different ways of brewing and single-origin beans, with her espresso machines and french presses at home. In the evenings, she loves flipping through her Barefoot Contessa Cookbooks, picking out the perfect recipe and hustling to the grocery store. She doesn’t follow the recipe much, and seems to always add things that aren’t included, but she finds that more often than not it just makes the dishes better. If she’s not in the kitchen, Winnie’s either out for a walk with her beloved dog, Ranger or curled up on the sofa, reading a good book.
